Biography

Beka Injia currently holds the position of the Secretary General of the Georgian International Arbitration Centre. With his leadership GIAC has become a leading arbitration centre in the region. In parallel he is running its private legal practice. For more than 6 years he was the legal director in Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

Mr. Injia has previously worked both in public and in private sector. His professional experience includes positions at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia, where he was advisor in a division of State Representation in Arbitration and foreign Courts. He also worked in ministry of Finances. For number of year he was the General legal counsel of one of the largest Real Estate Development Company (Meidan Group) in Georgia. He has served as arbitrator in a several constriction disputes. He is a member of supervisory boards of various Corporations. 

Mr. Injia has been the member of various working groups and committees created with the aim of reforming the existing Georgian Legislation in the field of Arbitration and dispute settlement. He is recognized expert in the field of Arbitration. 

He is also member of Georgian bar Association, Georgian Arbitrators Association, Georgian Law firms Association; 

Mr. Injia holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Law from Tbilisi State University, as well as an LL.M in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) from a joint program of the Geneva University Law School and the Graduate Institute of international and Development Studies, in Geneva, Switzerland, also The Hague Academy of International Law. 

Mr. Injia frequently participates in a number of international and local workshops, conferences as a speaker. He is an invited lecturer at several Universities in Georgia.

  • Participating in the implementation of GIAC – Resolve joint project on “Early response to potential commercial disputes triggered by COVID-19”;
  • Negotiation and execution of the contracts on the following projects:
  • Energy sector: constriction of several Hydropower Plants (BOO type)
    • Real Estate: development and construction of several international branded hotels
    • Radisson Collection, best western ect.
    • M&A: involved the companies and real estate owned by Iranian and Georgian investors;
  • Acting on behalf of GCCI and GIAC as an appointing authority under the FIDIC Contracts in a number related large infrastructural projects, involving different international companies and state agencies (e.g. Road Department);
  • Representing the client in ICC arbitration dispute under the FIDIC Contract (red book 1999 ed.) against one of the biggest Georgian equity funds;
  • Sitting as an Mediator and Arbitrator in commercial and private disputes;
  • Providing the legal opinion and advices on the contract termination to the Georgian Government, in terms of Georgian law regarding almost one billion dollar valued HPP projects, together with Sherman and Sterling LLP legal team.
  • Participating in the recognition and enforcement procedure of foreign arbitral award in Georgian Supreme Court rendered by the arbitration tribunals in Moscow, Kiev and Zurich;
  • Representing foreign investors in multi-million court claim regarding agricultural project in Georgia;
  • Providing legal advice and assistants in legal matters to several international brand companies;
